EP90 - Staying Together for the Kids
Staying together for the kids.
Breaking up or divorcing can be an excruciating process, made even more difficult when children are involved. As therapists, we often hear couples or partners say that they are staying in a relationship “for the kids.” While the intention behind the decision is based in love, this has the potential for risk to the children in the home, including impacts to their mental health long-term, negative influences on their future romantic partner preferences, daily stress, and more.
Join us as we help dispel the myth that divorce is inherently bad for children. Through empirical research, we know that parental conflict before, during, and after divorce are what can harm children, not amicable parting of ways. Let us help you think through the decision to stay and go, weighing in the risks to your children!
